Process of Marking Your Trees
This process outlines the steps if you prefer to mark your own trees. We will be happy to assist you with tree marking when we come to spray your trees at no additional charge.
What You Will Need
- 1. Flagging (yellow or green preferably) available at your local hardware store.
- 2. Tree ID guide included in mailing
- 3. Mountain pine beetle ID guide included in mailing
Marking Your Trees
- 1. Identify susceptible trees. Use included information to do so.
- 2. Identify infested trees. Use included information to do so. These trees should probably not be considered for spraying.
- 3. Identify areas where active water (streams, rivers, ponds, lakes) is present. We cannot spray within 25 feet of these areas. If you would like to protect trees in these areas we can apply pheromone pouches.
- 4. Of those susceptible trees which are un-infested, decide which you would like to protect. Consider your view, shade, intrinsic value, monetary value, ect. Remember, it is likely all susceptible trees you do not treat will become infested and die.
- 5. Tie flagging around each tree, at chest level, you wish to protect. Please use yellow or green flagging uniformly to mark all trees that you wish to have sprayed.
- 6. Make an accurate count on the number of trees you have marked. This is not always as easy as it sounds, so please double check your count.
Before we spray your trees…
1. We will mark each tree with a dot of spray paint near the base of the tree so the trees can be easily identified for future spraying.2. We will check to make sure you have not marked any trees within 25 feet of standing or active water. 3. We will check to ensure you have not marked tree species which are non-susceptible to bark beetles. If you have, we will choose alternate trees.4. Trees that are already infested should only be selected for spraying if they are of high value to you. Trees that only have a few (less than ten) beetle attacks might be saved by spraying if the tree is healthy enough to defend itself against those initial attacks.
*Spraying your infested trees will not normally kill beetles that have already entered the tree.
